Pedestrian Dies Following WeGo Bus Accident in East Nashville

A pedestrian struck by a WeGo bus in East Nashville on Oct. 1 has died from her injuries, according to the Metro Nashville Police Department.

The incident occurred around 8:30 p.m. as the bus was traveling north on Dickerson Pike near Ewing Street. The driver attempted to avoid two pedestrians crossing the roadway, but the front passenger side of the bus collided with 64-year-old Patricia Owens. She was critically injured and transported to Skyline Medical Center, where she succumbed to her injuries on Oct. 2.

The second pedestrian, 65-year-old Jeffrey Holley, was struck by the bus's side mirror and sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Police reported that the bus driver, who has not been identified, showed no signs of impairment. Eric Melcher, a spokesperson for WeGo, stated that the driver was shaken by the crash and has been interviewed by authorities. WeGo's safety team is cooperating with the police investigation.

Melcher confirmed that no passengers on the bus were injured and that the vehicles are equipped with multiple cameras. Video footage of the incident has been provided to the Metro Nashville Police Department.

The investigation is ongoing, and no further details have been released at this time.
