LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX News) — Update: Aug. 20 at 2 p.m. Winchester Road has reopened following a fatal collision that occurred early Thursday afternoon.
A single-vehicle crash occurred on Winchester Road near Combs Ferry Road just before 11 a.m. Thursday, according to the Lexington Fire Department. The driver, the sole occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities said the Lexington Fire Department subsequently handed over the investigation to the Lexington Police Department and the Fayette County Coroner's Office.
Winchester Road was closed between Haley Road and Lofgren Court from approximately 11:00 a.m. until the road's reopening. Drivers were advised to use Interstate 64 as an alternate route during the closure.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
