A 21-year-old Ohio State student died after a crash at North High Street and East Seventh Avenue in Columbus on July 22.
The collision happened around 2:40 p.m. at the southeast corner of the intersection, according to the Columbus Division of Police and a crash report.
Ohio State spokesperson Ben Johnson confirmed the victim as Sarosh Sheth, 21, of Warren. Columbus Fire medics took him to The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, where he died at 3:15 p.m.
A second pedestrian, a 52-year-old man from the Near East Side, was taken to OSU Wexner in critical condition. Police had not provided an update on his condition as of July 24.
According to the crash report, a 2001 Ford Mustang driven by a 21-year-old man from Mishawaka, Indiana, was traveling east on King Avenue when it ran a red light at North High Street, left the roadway and struck two pedestrians on the sidewalk. Witnesses reported the Mustang sped through the intersection before the impact.
Police said the Mustang then entered the Kroger parking lot at 1350 N. High St., where it hit an occupied parked Chevrolet Malibu, pushing the Malibu into two unoccupied parked vehicles. Medics took the Malibu's occupant, a 34-year-old man from the North Side, to OSU Wexner with minor injuries.
Authorities said the Mustang's driver was treated at the scene and arrested. As of July 24, he had not been booked into the Franklin County jail or charged, according to online jail and court records.
The Columbus Police Accident Investigation Unit is investigating.
