WASHINGTON (TNND) — Ohio Democratic Rep. Marcy Kaptur was hospitalized on Sunday morning following a hit-skip crash near Toledo.
The Toledo Police Department confirmed that Kaptur, 80, was a passenger in a vehicle also driven by 26-year-old Kegan Zimmerman, who sustained injuries. Both individuals were transported to a local hospital.
Authorities reported Kaptur's injuries are non-life-threatening, and she is in stable condition. A statement from Kaptur's office noted she is active and alert while receiving treatment.
The crash occurred around 10:48 a.m. near North Detroit and West Central avenues. Police indicated that the other vehicle involved fled the scene.
Toledo police have stated that they are making significant progress in the investigation and following several strong leads to identify the fleeing driver. A witness reported that the other driver was picked up by another vehicle shortly after the incident.
