Northport hit-and-run claims the life of a 72-year-old man as police launch an investigation.

A 72-year-old man was killed on February 25 in a incident on U.S. Highway 43 in Northport.

According to authorities, the Northport Police Department responded to the area near its intersection with 93rd Street after a caller reported a body by the roadside. Upon arrival, officers discovered the deceased man, later identified as Willie Clay Fleming of Northport.

Capt. Jack Kennedy of the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit stated that Fleming appeared to have been struck by a vehicle, which subsequently fled the scene. The incident is believed to have occurred between 6:20 p.m. and 6:40 p.m.

The investigation is being conducted by the Northport Police Traffic Homicide Unit and the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit.
