BROOKLYN PARK, Minn. — Liz Conmy, a North Dakota House representative from the 11th District, died in a plane crash on Saturday, April 25.

The crash occurred just before noon near Crystal Airport, resulting in the deaths of two occupants, according to Brooklyn Park Police. Authorities have not yet identified the victims.

Conmy's death was confirmed to The Forum by North Dakota Sen. Tim Mathern and various members of the North Dakota Democratic Party. The aircraft, a Beech F33A, reportedly caught fire upon impact.

Conmy, who served the 11th District in central Fargo, was first elected in 2023 and was seeking re-election. Mathern described her as having a “zest for life” and a unique perspective on both rural and urban issues, citing her experience working a farm in Langdon, North Dakota.

“Liz served her state and community with care and compassion,” North Dakota Gov. Kelly Armstrong stated. He acknowledged her contributions to the Legislature and other state initiatives.

Lt. Gov. Michelle Strinden expressed her heartbreak, noting Conmy's dedication and integrity in her committee work. Other political figures, including North Dakota Rep. Zac Ista, highlighted her bi-partisan approach and commitment to public service.

Armstrong has ordered that U.S. and North Dakota flags be flown at half-mast on the day of Conmy's interment. An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
