RALEIGH, NC — A single-vehicle accident on Saturday morning resulted in the death of a 45-year-old man, according to local authorities.
Thomas Nguyen was traveling at a high rate of speed on I-440 when he failed to navigate a left-hand curve around 2:41 a.m. Officials reported that his vehicle left the roadway and struck a guardrail. Emergency Medical Services arrived on the scene but pronounced Nguyen dead shortly thereafter.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is investigating the incident. Authorities said there were no other vehicles involved, and no additional injuries were reported.
As a result of the crash, I-440 experienced lane closures for approximately three hours while the scene was cleared and evidence was collected. Towing services were utilized to remove the vehicle from the scene.
Authorities continued to emphasize the dangers of excessive speeding, reminding drivers to adhere to posted speed limits. The incident highlights ongoing concerns regarding roadway safety in the area.
