DICKINSON, ND — A 55-year-old man died in a crash west of Taylor on Tuesday night, according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol.

The incident occurred on Old Highway 10, in the 9500 block, with emergency responders dispatched at 8:14 p.m. Mountain time. Authorities reported that the rider was operating a 1991 Harley-Davidson westbound when he lost control, first leaving the roadway before re-entering and then overcorrecting, leading to another departure into the north ditch.

Witnesses reported that the motorcycle traveled through the ditch, tripping and rolling, which resulted in the rider being . He sustained life-threatening injuries and was to CHI St. Alexius Health Dickinson, where he was .

Officials noted that the rider was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Road conditions were dry during the incident.

The North Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash, assisted by the Stark County Sheriff's Office, Richardton EMS, and the Taylor Volunteer Fire Department. The identity of the victim has not been released, pending notification of family members.
