SOUTH WEBER, Utah (KUTV) — A motorcyclist was killed in a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 84 on Saturday afternoon as traffic slowed due to the ongoing Broad Fire.
At approximately 3:30 p.m., a truck traveling west on I-84 near mile marker 98 collided with an SUV, pushing it into a motorcycle, which subsequently struck a passenger vehicle, according to Utah Highway Patrol (UHP).
The motorcyclist died at the scene; their identity has not yet been released. UHP confirmed no other injuries occurred in the incident.
Authorities reported that all but one lane of I-84 reopened by Sunday morning. However, Utah Fire Info officials advised motorists to exercise caution due to anticipated delays and heavy fire traffic in the area.
“Drive slowly and defensively, paying close attention to your surroundings,” fire officials stated. “We want to avoid any car accidents during this busy holiday traffic.”
The Broad Fire, first detected on Saturday, prompted traffic closures along I-84 as firefighters responded to the scene, battling the blaze in steep terrain.
Emergency services continue to monitor the situation, and an investigation into the crash is ongoing.
