SPRINGFIELD, Tenn. (Smokey Barn News) — A motorcyclist is in critical condition following a serious crash late Saturday night at the intersection of South Main Street and 21st Avenue, near the One Stop Market. The incident was reported to 911 at 11:15 p.m.
According to preliminary reports, a white SUV failed to stop at a stop sign and collided with the motorcycle. The rider sustained severe injuries, prompting immediate life-saving efforts by Robertson County EMS, the Springfield Fire Department, and Police. The motorcyclist was subsequently transported to a local trauma center.
Witnesses reported that the SUV driver fled the scene on foot. Springfield Police arrived within seconds, and it is believed that an officer may have witnessed the crash and has footage from a dashcam.
Security video from the One Stop Market shows the SUV running the stop sign before striking the motorcycle. The footage is graphic; viewer discretion is advised.
The investigation has been handed over to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, indicating the crash's severity. Heavy rain moved in shortly after the THP began their inquiry, which may complicate the investigation process.
