PHOENIX – A 27-year-old motorcyclist died following a collision with a Jeep at the intersection of 22nd Street and Indian School Road on Thursday.
The accident occurred when a 53-year-old man driving the Jeep attempted to make a left turn, failing to yield to the motorcyclist in the westbound curb lane, according to a preliminary investigation.
The motorcyclist, identified as Ansar Azim, was transported to the hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Authorities confirmed the driver of the Jeep remained at the scene and that investigators are assessing potential charges, pending toxicology results and scene reconstruction.
This incident marks the latest in a series of fatal motorcycle crashes this month. Earlier this week, a motorcyclist was ejected after rear-ending a vehicle on US 60 in Mesa during rush hour. On May 3, another fatal motorcycle crash resulted in the closure of Loop 101 in Scottsdale, while a woman was arrested for manslaughter related to a separate motorcycle crash in south Phoenix on May 2.
