WHITLEY COUNTY, Ky. (LEX NEWS) — Danisha Martin pleaded guilty to complicity to vehicular homicide on Monday in Whitley Circuit Court, related to a fatal moped crash.
Martin, 31, faces a recommended sentence of 10 years, with sentencing scheduled for July 20. Commonwealth's Attorney Ronnie Bowling stated that the plea aligns with the wishes of those impacted by the incident.
According to Kentucky State Police, the crash occurred on August 4, 2024, when a 2011 Kia Sportage struck a moped carrying Martin's daughter and 31-year-old Darius L. Wade on I-75 in Whitley County. Both victims sustained serious injuries and were transported to Baptist Regional Hospital in Corbin before being flown to the University of Kentucky Hospital. The 10-year-old girl was pronounced dead by the Fayette County Coroner's Office.
Authorities reported that alcohol is a suspected factor in the crash. Martin was initially charged with complicity to murder, while Wade continues to face a murder charge, which includes operating a motor vehicle under the influence.
