BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — A mother and her two daughters died early Sunday in a wrong-way crash on Highway 99, authorities reported.
The California Highway Patrol responded at 12:44 a.m. on August 16 to the collision in the southbound lanes of Highway 99, near 7th Standard Road.
The crash involved a 2022 Honda Accord, driven by 20-year-old Kylie Wetmore; a 2019 BMW 530i, driven by a 44-year-old man; and a 2022 Chevrolet Colorado, driven by a 41-year-old woman.
According to CHP, all three occupants of the Honda were pronounced dead at the scene. The Kern County Coroner's Office identified them as 41-year-old Vanessa Sue Wetmore and her daughters, 20-year-old Kylie and 16-year-old Kloie Wetmore, all residents of Bakersfield.
The driver of the BMW suffered severe injuries, while the two occupants of the Chevrolet sustained minor injuries. CHP is investigating which vehicle was traveling the wrong way.
A GoFundMe has been launched to support the family, highlighting that the mother and daughters were returning home from a concert in Fresno.
CHP has not yet determined if alcohol or drugs were involved in the collision.
