ST. LOUIS — A 26-year-old woman from Mississippi was killed in a crash on Tuesday evening at the intersection of Dr. Martin Luther King Boulevard and Euclid Avenue.
Kennedy Reed, a former Terry High School student, died following the collision involving two vehicles. Authorities confirmed that emergency response teams were dispatched to the scene. The extent of injuries to others involved has yet to be disclosed.
Witnesses reported that community members attempted to assist Reed until emergency services arrived. Her mother has publicly mourned, describing Reed as her only child and best friend, and lamented the loss following a reported incident involving a drunken driver.
Authorities have not confirmed details surrounding the crash, including whether alcohol or speeding played a role. There are no updates available regarding potential charges.
Reed was a distinguished scholar, having graduated magna cum laude from Alcorn State University with a degree in chemistry. She was recently enrolled in a doctoral program at Washington University in St. Louis.
Her former mentor, Melanie McReynolds, praised Reed's potential, stating, “She was only getting started.” Reed was also a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, where she was recognized for her commitment to scholarship and service.
As the investigation continues, Reed's family urges the community to remember her legacy and the positive impact she had during her life.
