CHARLOTTE, ME — A man was killed after a high-speed crash early Saturday morning following an alleged armed threat at a local bar.

At approximately 1 a.m. on Saturday, Maine State Police responded to a fatal crash on Charlotte Road in Charlotte. The driver, identified as 40-year-old Robert Boggia Jr. of Whiting, was at the scene.

Authorities reported that Boggia had threatened patrons at a bar in Calais before fleeing the scene in a red Corvette. Witnesses observed his vehicle traveling at speeds of approximately 150 mph on Route 1.

Baileyville police attempted to pursue Boggia but were unable to catch up. A Washington County sheriff's deputy saw his vehicle on Charlotte Road shortly before the crash but could not reach it in time.

Boggia was thrown from the vehicle during the incident, landing a significant distance from the . High speed is believed to be a contributing factor in the crash. Toxicology results are pending.

Charlotte Road was closed for several hours as state police documented the crash scene. The investigation remains ongoing, according to authorities.
