AURORA, Colo. (WKRC) – A man was sentenced to 26 years in prison for kidnapping a witness following a vehicle crash on May 25, 2025.

According to the Pueblo County District Attorney's Office, Shane McSwane, 29, forced his way into Grace Dotson's vehicle after she attempted to call 911. He subsequently held her captive for four hours, driving erratically on the interstate and allowing her to answer calls from her family.

The Pueblo County Sheriff's Office reported that McSwane later used Dotson's vehicle to rob a Circle K convenience store. Authorities initiated a pursuit, which concluded when police deployed stop sticks and executed a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) maneuver, resulting in McSwane's arrest and Dotson's rescue.

McSwane pled guilty to charges of kidnapping and attempted aggravated robbery on June 12, 2026. He is required to serve 85% of his sentence before being eligible for parole.
