LAS VEGAS — A man crashed a car into a Dollar Tree on Craig Road near Decatur Boulevard and stabbed a woman around 7:30 a.m. Monday, police said.

According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, the incident stemmed from a domestic dispute. The woman was taken to a hospital; her condition was not released.

Prosecutors said the suspect texted a domestic relation beforehand stating he would drive the vehicle through her workplace, then carried it out and stabbed her multiple times.

A nearby person fired a gun during the incident and shot at the suspect, according to police.

Authorities said Shawn Handley, 45, appeared in court Tuesday on 10 charges, including attempted murder with use of a deadly weapon; six counts of assault with a deadly weapon; burglary; battery resulting in substantial bodily harm; and destruction of property.

Judge Suzan Baucum set bail at $750,000 at prosecutors' request. The defense sought $30,000 and proposed electronic monitoring and no-contact orders, authorities said.

In court, officials said Handley has prior criminal history that includes five felonies and gross misdemeanors from 1998 to 2006 in other states; specific counts were not detailed.

Handley is scheduled to return to court on March 26. Police said the investigation remains ongoing.
