Two teenage girls killed in New Jersey crash

Cranford, NJ — Two 17-year-old girls were killed in a hit-and-run incident while riding an electronic bike on Monday evening, authorities reported.

The victims, identified as Maria Niotis and Isabella Sala, were struck shortly before 5:30 p.m. and suffered serious injuries. They were transported to an area hospital, where they later died.

A 17-year-old boy from Garwood has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder in connection to the crash, according to Union County Prosecutor William A. Daniel and Cranford Police Chief Matthew Nazzaro. His name has not been released.

Neighbors alleged that the suspect had been stalking one of the girls for several months, claiming he parked outside her house and followed her online and at school. Police are reportedly aware of these claims.

Cranford Township expressed deep sorrow over the incident, stating, “Our hearts go out to their families, friends, and loved ones during this time of unimaginable pain.”

The investigation is ongoing, with authorities urging anyone with information to contact Union County Prosecutor's Office Homicide Task Force Detective Alex Lanza at 908-370-4318 or Cranford Police Detective Jason D'Agostino at 908-276-0171.
