GREENACRES, Fla. (TNND) — Nine people were killed when a Learjet 60 crashed in a residential area of Greenacres over the weekend, authorities said.
According to the National Transportation Safety Board, the crew reported light clear ice and moderate turbulence at about 12:47 p.m., then declared a mayday and reported an “overspeed condition” at about 12:48 p.m.
The Federal Aviation Administration said the jet departed Austin-Bergstrom International Airport and was en route to North Eleuthera Airport in the Bahamas.
The family identified the co-pilot as 20-year-old Nathalia Filgueiras of Boca Raton. Authorities said all nine aboard died.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said debris and damage prompted the temporary relocation of about 600 residents from a nearby mobile home park to shelters.
A representative for 62-year-old rock musician Lenny Kravitz said reports linking him to the flight were “untrue and incorrect.” A pilot whose social media post fueled the rumor said she was not involved.
Fire and emergency crews responded to the crash scene, and federal investigators are collecting evidence. The cause remains under investigation, the NTSB said.
