Jeffrey Collins Identified as Victim in Fatal Motorcycle Crash in Seaford Area.

SEAFORD, DE — Delaware State Police have identified Jeffrey Collins, 56, of Seaford, as the motorcyclist who died following a crash on May 9.

Collins was riding a Yamaha XVS west on River Road when he lost control while navigating a curve around 9:20 p.m. According to authorities, he was , and the motorcycle skidded off the roadway and fell on its side.

Emergency responders transported Collins to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he succumbed to those injuries on May 10.

His death contributes to a worrying trend in traffic fatalities across the state. As of May 12, the Delaware Department of Transportation reported a total of 41 traffic fatalities, marking a 24% increase compared to 33 fatalities at the same time last year. Fatal motorcycle crashes have also slightly escalated, with five incidents reported this year, up from four at this time last year.

As May marks Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month, the Delaware Office of Highway Safety urges both drivers and motorcyclists to commit to safer road practices. The agency highlights the increased risks motorcyclists face due to the lack of vehicle protection.

The Office of Highway Safety recommends that motorcyclists make themselves visible, watch for hazards, adhere to traffic laws, remain vigilant of others, and ride sober.
