Teens Hospitalized After Crash Between Car and Train in Northern Iowa
LAKOTA, Iowa — A collision involving a train and a car in northern Iowa resulted in two teenagers being hospitalized Tuesday afternoon.
According to the Kossuth County Sheriff's Office, emergency services received a call shortly before 4 p.m. regarding the incident at a railroad crossing on 190th Avenue in the northeast corner of Lakota.
Authorities reported that a 2004 Chevrolet Impala was traveling southbound when it struck an eastbound train. Witness Alex Horak observed the crash and noted that the vehicle caught fire. He assisted in rescuing both occupants shortly before the car became fully engulfed in flames.
The two individuals, a 16-year-old and a 12-year-old male, were transported to a Minnesota hospital with head and upper body injuries.
The incident is currently under investigation.
