Iowa Lakes Baseball Team Returns to Field After Fatal Bus Crash
ESTHERVILLE, Iowa — The Iowa Lakes Community College baseball team returned to the field Friday at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, their first appearance since a bus crash last month that killed 19-year-old Carter Johnson and injured 32 others.
According to officials, the team was en route to Arkansas for a series of games when the bus left the roadway and overturned. Following the incident, Iowa Lakes canceled games from February 12 to March 8.
In a statement, Iowa Lakes expressed, “As our student-athletes continue to heal following the recent accident, returning to the field represents the strength and resilience of this team.”
Emergency responders assisted at the scene, and a thorough investigation into the cause of the crash is underway.
