Woman Killed in H-1 Freeway Crash in Nuuanu

HONOLULU (Island News) — A 28-year-old woman died in a crash on the H-1 Freeway in Nuuanu on Saturday evening around 5:58 p.m.

According to the Honolulu Police Department, Savalivali L. Vivao of Honolulu was traveling westbound when her vehicle crossed all lanes and struck the concrete center median. First responders pronounced Vivao dead at the scene.

Police confirmed Vivao was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the incident. Speed does not appear to be a factor, though it's unclear if drugs or alcohol played a role.

The Honolulu Medical Examiner's Office is investigating the cause and manner of death. Lane closures were in effect for several hours as crews completed their work and investigators processed the scene.

This incident marks Oahu's 22nd traffic fatality of 2026, compared to 41 fatalities at the same point last year. The investigation remains ongoing.
