WEST ASHLEY — Highway 61 is shut down following a morning crash on August 20.
As of 7:30 a.m., both lanes of the highway, near the Planters Trace apartment complex and just before the Interstate 526 overpass, remain closed.
According to Charleston County Dispatch records, a call for a traffic collision was received around 6:30 a.m. Emergency services are on the scene, with police diverting eastbound traffic through the Avenues of West Ashley apartment complex.
Authorities have not confirmed the circumstances of the crash or the extent of injuries.
The road closure is causing significant delays in both eastbound and westbound traffic on Highway 61. An investigation is ongoing.
