GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) — A Traverse City teen died in a car crash on Sunday night, sparking remembrance among friends and teammates.
Wilder Seeberger, 17, was set to start his junior year at Traverse City Central High School when the incident occurred. Authorities are investigating the crash, which they believe may have involved alcohol.
Classmates and teammates gathered to honor Wilder by displaying his soccer jersey during their first game of the season. “It was really emotional,” said Gavin Richmond, varsity boys' soccer coach. “It was really special…Something bigger than football.”
In tribute, the team hung Wilder's jersey on the goalpost to keep his memory alive. Richmond noted that the decision to retire his number, 33, was made collectively by the players, who plan to bring the jersey to every game this season in Wilder's honor.
