SPOTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. — Three Spotsylvania High School seniors were killed in a crash on Lewiston Road late Friday night, according to the Spotsylvania Sheriff's Office.

The crash occurred around 11:46 p.m. when a 2002 coupe reportedly ran off the roadway and struck a tree. The victims were identified as two 17-year-olds and an 18-year-old.

The names of the deceased have not yet been released. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.

“The Spotsylvania Sheriff's Office extends its deepest condolences to the families, friends, and the entire school community affected by this tragic loss,” authorities said.

Witnesses reported that the roadway has been in poor condition, with one resident stating that and loose pavement make driving hazardous. Local resident Sarah Hunnell highlighted the need for repairs, noting that winter storms exacerbated existing road issues.

Hunnell mentioned the high speed of traffic on Lewiston Road, which is heavily used by logging trucks. She has contacted the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) multiple times regarding the need for repairs.
