WAVERLY, Va. — One Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) employee is dead and another injured following a crash on Route 460 on Wednesday afternoon, according to Virginia State Police.

At approximately 1:33 p.m., a commercial vehicle collided with a VDOT crash truck in the right lane near George Town Road, causing the truck to catch fire, VSP officials reported. Both VDOT employees were transported to a local hospital, where one succumbed to injuries.

The incident is currently under investigation. No further details on lane closures or towing were provided.
