YELLOWSTONE COUNTY — A 12-year-old girl died, and two others were injured in a vehicle crash on Friday, August 22, 2025.
The incident occurred at approximately 6:40 a.m. near mile marker 460 on Interstate 90.
According to the Montana Highway Patrol (MHP), a 42-year-old man was driving a Jeep Gladiator westbound with two passengers, a 14-year-old boy and the 12-year-old girl, all from Burien, Washington.
The MHP report indicates the driver lost control while negotiating a left turn, causing the Jeep to veer off-road and collide with a tree, resulting in the vehicle overturning.
After hitting another tree, the Jeep came to rest on its roof.
The 12-year-old girl was pronounced dead at the scene; the driver and boy were transported to Intermountain Health for treatment.
According to MHP, the driver and the boy were wearing seatbelts at the time of the incident, while the girl was not secured.
MHP stated that neither alcohol, drugs, nor speed were contributing factors in the crash, which remains under investigation.
