Fatal Bus Crash on I-95 Claims Five Lives in Stafford County, VA
STAFFORD COUNTY, VA — A bus collided with multiple vehicles on I-95 early Friday morning, resulting in five fatalities, including a family from Massachusetts.
Authorities confirmed that four individuals in an Acura SUV—identified as Dimitri Doncev, 42, Ecaterina Doncev, 41, and their children, 13-year-old Emily and 7-year-old Mark—were killed when the bus pushed another vehicle into their SUV, which subsequently caught fire. A 25-year-old woman from Worcester, Massachusetts, also perished in the crash.
Emergency responders transported 44 people to nearby hospitals, with five remaining hospitalized as of Saturday morning, according to Mary Washington Healthcare. Of those, one is in critical condition, two are serious, and two are in fair condition.
The accident occurred at around 2:41 a.m. in the southbound lanes, prompting lane closures while an investigation commenced. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is expected to hold a press conference at 3 p.m. Saturday to provide additional information.
Providence Christian Academy in Greenfield, Massachusetts, released a statement mourning the loss of the Doncev family, emphasizing their cherished status within the school community.
