Lede: Four teenagers died early Sunday in a wrong-way crash on the New Jersey Turnpike in Carneys Point Township, authorities said.
A 41-year-old man, Christopher Neff from Westminster, Colorado, was driving a Dodge pickup truck north in a southbound lane near milepost 1.3 around 12:42 a.m. when he collided with a Mazda SUV occupied by four people.
Following the initial impact, the Mazda was struck by a Freightliner tractor-trailer. The driver of the Mazda, Yaakov Kilberg, 19, and three passengers—Aharon Lebovits, 18, Shlomo Cohen, 18, both from Lakewood, and Chaim Grossman, 18, of Fallsburg, New York—died at the scene.
Neff sustained serious injuries and was taken to an area hospital. The driver of the Freightliner, Harpret Singh Sandhu, 29, of Nova Scotia, was uninjured.
The New Jersey State Police are investigating the incident, and details regarding lane closures are pending.
