Four injured, including two children, in Tacoma crash and fire following deputy pursuit.

PIERCE COUNTY, Wash. — A 22-year-old man was arrested Saturday after allegedly fleeing from deputies, crashing into another vehicle, and leading authorities on a foot chase near State Route 512.

The incident began at approximately 5:22 p.m. when a deputy attempted to stop a vehicle near the Alta Apartments on Steel Street South in Tacoma. The driver failed to yield, northbound until traffic forced him to slow down. Deputies deployed a tracking device before terminating the pursuit.

Minutes later, the vehicle was found stopped near South 84th Street and Yakima Avenue, where the suspect was reportedly trying to remove the tracking device. Authorities said he jumped back into the vehicle and fled again, turning onto Pacific Avenue South.

A collision occurred at about 5:29 p.m. near South 110th Street and Pacific Avenue South. The suspect then fled on foot and was apprehended after a brief chase near SR 512.

A firearm was visible inside the suspect's vehicle, which will be seized pending a search warrant. Investigators are also processing the suspect for driving under the influence. One vehicle involved in the crash caught fire.

Four occupants of the other vehicle, including two children, were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. A deputy was also injured and taken to the hospital.

The Washington State Patrol (WSP) is assisting with the ongoing investigation. Authorities advise the public to avoid the area as deputies process the scene.
