LAS VEGAS (AP) — Former NFL player Henry Ruggs was denied parole on Friday, nearly five years after a fatal DUI crash that resulted in the death of a woman.
On Nov. 2, 2021, Ruggs drove his sports car at speeds up to 156 mph in Las Vegas, colliding with a vehicle driven by 23-year-old Tina Tintor, who died along with her dog. Authorities reported that Ruggs had a blood-alcohol content of 0.16% within two hours of the crash.
Ruggs pleaded guilty in May 2023 to felony DUI causing death and misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter. He received a three- to 10-year prison sentence in August 2023.
In a statement, Ruggs' attorneys expressed disappointment with the Parole Board's decision, citing his acceptance of responsibility, involvement in DUI prevention outreach, and completion of educational programs while incarcerated.
Ruggs is scheduled to appear before the parole board again three months prior to his mandatory parole release date on Aug. 24, 2027, according to Kathi Baker, executive director of the Nevada Board of Parole Commissioners.
