VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — A car crash on Shore Drive claimed the life of 62-year-old Ronald Lockamy Jr. on Feb. 14, according to officials.
Emergency crews responded to the incident around 6 p.m. in the 5500 block of Shore Drive, where they found two drivers involved in a collision. Both were transported to the hospital.
One driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries, while Lockamy succumbed to his injuries the following day. Authorities confirmed that Lockamy was a former chief of the Nansemond Indian Tribe.
Keith Anderson, the current Nansemond chief, expressed the tribe's shock and grief, stating Lockamy's contributions and achievements would be missed. The two were recognized by the Virginia Beach City Council shortly before the crash.
Preliminary investigation indicated that Lockamy was driving east on Shore Drive when another vehicle entered his lane, leading to the collision.
