Former Jackson State football player dies in crash as Capitol Police launch investigation.

JACKSON, Miss. — A motor vehicle crash late Friday night has claimed the life of former Jackson State football player Levi Eric Wyatt Jr.

The accident occurred around 11:40 p.m. at the intersection of North State and Belhaven streets, according to authorities. Wyatt, 22, was at the scene.

Capitol Police are currently investigating the circumstances of the crash. There are no confirmed details about additional vehicles involved or the cause of the accident.

Wyatt was a senior defensive back for Jackson State University and had previously played at McNeese State, where he earned All-Southland Conference Second Team honors. During the 2024 season, he appeared in 12 games, recording 33 tackles, eight pass breakups, and a forced fumble.

Jackson State has not yet issued a statement regarding Wyatt's death.
