ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. (CBS12) — St. Johns County Sheriff's Office deputies rescued a man from a burning vehicle following a multi-car crash on Interstate 95 on March 1.
According to the Sheriff's Office, one vehicle was fully engulfed in flames upon their arrival. The driver had been ejected from the car and was lying dangerously close to the wreckage, unable to move.
Deputies navigated through thick brush to reach the injured man. Bodycam footage showed deputies quickly dragging him to safety, one stating, “I don't want that thing to f** explode.”
St. Johns County Fire Rescue provided emergency medical care after deputies created enough distance between the driver and the flames.
The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the crash, but no details on the driver's condition have been released. Sheriff's officials credited their quick actions with potentially saving the man's life as flames spread through the vehicle.
