FOND DU LAC, Wisc. (WLUK) — A high-speed police chase in Fond du Lac County ended dramatically when a suspect's vehicle crashed into a field after becoming airborne.

The pursuit began around 2:41 p.m. when State Troopers conducted a traffic stop and discovered the driver had an active felony warrant. According to authorities, the driver fled, prompting assistance from the Fond du Lac County Sheriff's Office.

The chase spanned approximately 4.5 miles, with the driver reversing direction off an exit ramp and navigating through local streets. Authorities reported that the driver lost control while exiting the interstate at high speed, crashing into a ditch, climbing an embankment, and landing in a field after going airborne over a roadway.

Both the driver, identified as 44-year-old Dewayne Stokes of Milwaukee, and a passenger attempted to flee on foot but were apprehended shortly thereafter. Stokes sustained minor injuries and was treated before being taken into custody.

Stokes faces multiple charges, including fleeing and eluding police, recklessly endangering safety, bail jumping, and possession of a firearm by a felon. He was already out on bond for a separate felony case involving an alleged stolen vehicle.
