Five Women Killed in Fiery Crash North of Austin

Five women from the Dallas area died in a fiery crash on U.S. 281, just north of Austin, last Friday during a planned girls trip.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), the victims, identified as Thalia Salinas, Ruby Cruz, Brianna Valadez, Desiree Cervantez, and Jacqueline Velazco, were traveling southbound when a northbound livestock trailer crossed into their lane. The trailer struck their vehicle, causing it to overturn and ignite. All five women were at the scene.

Family members confirmed they were long-time friends, with some having known each other since childhood. Ruby Cruz's younger sister reported that the family is raising funds for funeral costs, and Brianna Valadez's father, Jose Valadez, has also initiated fundraising efforts to support his family through this tragedy.

In a statement, Valadez expressed the family's profound loss, saying, “She was loved by her parents, bonus parents, her brother, and all of her family and friends.”

DPS officials stated that the crash remains under investigation, and no charges have been filed at this time. Memorials have been placed near the crash site to honor the victims.

Emergency responders attended the scene, and the investigation continues.
