Five Killed in I-95 Crash Involving Bus in Stafford County, Virginia
QUANTICO, Va. — Five individuals, including two children, were killed early Friday morning in a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 95, according to Virginia State Police.
The incident occurred at approximately 2:35 a.m. on the southbound side at mile marker 146 in Stafford County, near Quantico. Authorities reported that a charter bus en route from New York City to Charlotte failed to slow for traffic and struck a Chevrolet Suburban, causing it to collide with an Acura SUV and other vehicles. The Acura subsequently caught fire.
Four of the victims—ages 45, 44, 13, and 7—were identified as a family from Greenfield, Massachusetts. Their names have not been released, but the children were reported to be Dmitri and Ecaterina Doncev's children, Emily and Mark, according to a statement from their school. A fifth victim, a 25-year-old woman from Worcester, was also in the Suburban.
Approximately 34 people were aboard the bus at the time of the crash. A total of 44 patients were transported to local hospitals, including bus driver Jing S. Dong, 48, of New York.
Virginia State Police confirmed that the investigation is ongoing, and charges are pending.
