MADISON (WKOW) — Five children were hospitalized with minor injuries following a collision between a school bus and a dump truck on Highway 14 on Wednesday.
The crash occurred around 2:54 p.m. just south of the Beltline, prompting a closure of both directions on Highway 14 for over an hour. The Madison Fire Department arrived at the scene at approximately 3:02 p.m.
Five children, all students from Midvale Elementary School, were transported to UW Hospital for treatment. Two additional children were assessed by Monona Fire Department paramedics and later released to school reunification, according to a statement from MFD.
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation reported that the scene was cleared by 4:23 p.m.
Authorities stated that the dump truck driver ran a red light, leading to the collision with the bus. The driver has been cited, and the Madison Police Department is continuing its investigation into the incident. Further details on the investigation are expected to be released by MPD.
