Fatal crash leads to girlfriend's vehicular homicide charge.

PALM COAST, Fla. — A woman was charged with vehicular homicide after her boyfriend's dying words implicated her in a deadly crash on February 9.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Leigha Mumby, 24, was arrested in July following an incident on an interstate roadway in Flagler County. The crash occurred when Mumby allegedly accelerated to over 90 mph during an argument with her boyfriend, Daniel Waterman, 22, before colliding with a tree.

Waterman, who was critically injured, fell into a coma but later told investigators that Mumby had intentionally caused the crash. A report indicated that their argument escalated after Waterman learned of Mumby's pregnancy and received a text from another woman, prompting her .

After the crash, Mumby claimed she didn't remember the events leading up to it but recalled waking in severe pain. Both individuals sustained critical injuries; however, Waterman succumbed to his injuries on October 8, leading to the upgrade of charges against Mumby to vehicular homicide.

Mumby had initially faced charges of causing serious bodily harm and was released from Flagler County Jail after posting a $150,000 bond. It was confirmed that she had given birth recently, and Waterman's family is seeking custody of the child, pending a paternity test.

Authorities continue to investigate the incident, with concerns raised by Waterman's family regarding the child's future.
