Miguel Avila Charged with DUI and Reckless Homicide After Fatal Crash
ROCKFORD — Miguel Avila, 33, faces two counts of aggravated DUI involving death and reckless homicide following a crash on January 25, 2025.
Authorities reported that Rockford Police responded to a two-vehicle collision in the 4600 block of E. State St. at approximately 8 a.m. Upon arrival, officers found Brandy Wheeler-Norris, 33, unresponsive. She was taken to a local hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
Avila was at the scene and cooperated with law enforcement during the investigation. An arrest warrant was issued on April 3, leading to his subsequent arrest.
The investigation remains ongoing.
