Fatal crash in Georgetown kills Danville man, injures others.

Lede: A 51-year-old Danville man died in a three-vehicle crash on Illinois 1 in Georgetown on Wednesday.

The crash occurred at approximately 12:16 p.m. at the intersection of Illinois 1 and 15th Street. According to the Vermilion County Sheriff's Department, three vehicles were traveling southbound when the rear vehicle attempted to pass the one in the middle, rear-ending the front vehicle.

The passing vehicle swerved into the northbound lane and struck another vehicle head-on. The occupants of the passing vehicle included Michael L. Vermillion, who was at the scene. The other vehicles each had one occupant.

Authorities reported that all surviving individuals were transported to the hospital by ambulance. Names and conditions of the surviving occupants have not been released.

An autopsy for Vermillion is scheduled for the end of the week, according to Vermilion County Coroner Jane McFadden. The investigation into the crash remains ongoing by both the Sheriff's Department and the Coroner's office.
