Wilmington Police Investigate Fatal Crash Involving Police Pursuit

WILMINGTON, DE — A crash following a police chase resulted in the death of a 4-month-old boy early Tuesday morning, September 16.

Around 1 a.m., Wilmington police attempted to stop a vehicle on I-95. Authorities did not disclose the reason for the stop, but the driver accelerated and fled with two children inside. The vehicle exited at Marsh Road and proceeded toward Marsh Road and Edgemoor Road, veering off the roadway before crashing.

Four occupants were found in the vehicle. The 33-year-old driver, who is wanted for various offenses, was transported to a hospital in critical condition. A 32-year-old woman and a 10-year-old girl sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were reported stable.

The deceased infant was not secured in a car seat at the time of the crash. Police stated he later died from his injuries.

Charges against the driver related to the police pursuit and the infant's death are pending. The investigation remains active.
