Eugene Man Dies in Head-On Collision on Highway 97
Klamath County, OR — A Eugene man died in a car crash on Highway 97 near milepost 200 on Sept. 5 at approximately 8:50 p.m.
According to Oregon State Police, 21-year-old Elias Keyin Sorenson was driving a black Honda two-door sedan northbound when he crossed into the southbound lane and collided head-on with a white Volvo semitruck hauling a 53-foot trailer.
Sorenson was pronounced dead at the scene. The semitruck driver suffered minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
The incident led to lane closures on Highway 97 for about five hours as investigators worked at the scene, OSP officials reported.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash. Further details are pending.
