ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky. — An Elizabethtown man faces vehicular homicide charges related to the death of a 15-year-old boy.
Kentucky State Police responded to 860 Bewley Road on Saturday at 8:57 p.m. for a single-vehicle crash. A car had flipped upside down in a flooded creek, trapping three occupants inside.
David Rhodes, 44, was driving when he reportedly lost control of the vehicle. Ethan Rhodes, 15, was transported to the hospital but died from drowning, according to the coroner. Another minor and Rhodes were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Authorities stated that David Rhodes was driving under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident. He has been charged with two counts of assault and operating a motor vehicle under the influence. On Monday, he received an additional charge of vehicular homicide.
David Rhodes is scheduled to appear in court on July 6. The relationship between Rhodes and the victims has not been disclosed by police.
