PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. — An 82-year-old man from Melbourne died Friday afternoon after his vehicle crashed into a tree on Interstate 95.
The incident occurred at 3:14 p.m. on August 14, on northbound I-95, just south of Gatlin Boulevard.
According to investigators, the driver was traveling in the inside lane when his 2002 Jeep Wrangler veered off the roadway and onto the left shoulder. The vehicle continued into the grass median and struck a tree head-on, coming to rest facing west.
Emergency responders found the driver entrapped and suffering from severe injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene by a St. Lucie County paramedic.
The crash remains under investigation by authorities.
