KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WCHS) — A tractor-trailer crash on Tuesday led to the death of the driver and prompted emergency response efforts on the Dunbar-South Charleston Bridge.

The incident occurred in the westbound lanes of Interstate 64, where a tractor-trailer caught fire, resulting in a fatality. Authorities reported that the driver of an adjacent vehicle escaped without major injuries.

Emergency responders arrived on the scene, where they worked to contain the fire and clear the roadway. The westbound lanes were closed for several hours, causing significant traffic delays.

In a heartwarming twist, a dog named Hennessey was rescued from the scene. The Kanawha-Charleston Humane Association is currently holding Hennessey and has confirmed plans to reunite the dog with the driver’s family. They were notified on Tuesday evening and intend to keep Hennessey.

A video captured the moment Hennessey reacted to a FaceTime call with a family member, showcasing the bond that remains. The humane association announced Wednesday morning that arrangements are in place to transfer the dog to the family.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing, with agencies assessing the circumstances surrounding the incident.
