AMARILLO, Texas (KVII) — A 1,600-pound red bull escaped from a cattle trailer after it overturned on Interstate 40 on Wednesday evening.
The incident occurred around 5:45 p.m. on eastbound I-40 at Washington Street, prompting traffic diversions during the busy rush hour. The bull traveled approximately 1.3 miles south from the crash site before being corralled by police into a backyard in the 3400 block of South Jackson Street.
According to witnesses, the bull appeared injured and overheated upon arrival at the Lopez family's residence. The family attempted to cool the animal with a garden hose and offered it apples, although the bull reportedly showed no appreciation for the cooling effort.
The Potter County Sheriff's Office responded by bringing a livestock trailer to transport the bull safely. The extent of the bull's injuries remains unconfirmed.
No other vehicles were involved in the crash, and no further information on potential lane closures or traffic impact has been provided. Authorities continue to investigate the incident.
