Woman Convicted of DUI-Related Manslaughter After Fatal Crash in Flagstaff

PINAL COUNTY, AZ – Marian Marsha Josytewa, 40, was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter, assault, child abuse, and driving under the influence following a fatal crash that occurred in December 2021.

According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, the incident took place after Josytewa consumed several beers and drove her two children home from school in Flagstaff. While on a highway leading to the Hopi Tribe homeland, her vehicle rolled over, resulting in one child being and subsequently dying.

Following the crash, Josytewa was tested for blood alcohol concentration, which registered at 0.113. Authorities said a federal jury reached the verdict after a six-day trial, and sentencing is set for Nov. 3, 2025.

The investigation was a joint effort between the FBI Phoenix Division's Flagstaff office and the Navajo Police Department, with assistance from the Arizona Department of Public Safety and the Navajo County Sheriff's Office. The U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Arizona handled the prosecution.
