BELVIDERE TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A crash involving three vehicles late Thursday night resulted in the deaths of two 17-year-olds.

The incident occurred just after 11 p.m. on June 18 along M-46 near Derby Road. A 49-year-old man from Grandville reportedly rear-ended a Cruze carrying the teenagers, causing the vehicle to enter oncoming traffic where it was struck by two additional cars.

Both teenagers were at the scene, while a woman from Saginaw was transported to the hospital for treatment. The other vehicles involved were driven by the Saginaw woman and her husband, who were returning home separately.

Authorities believe the Grandville man was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. “Our heart goes out to the community, to the family and friends… I hope the community keeps them in their thoughts and prayers as well,” said Lt. Pat Agema of the Michigan State Police.

Troopers are conducting witness interviews, gathering evidence, and reconstructing the scene to further investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.

As summer approaches, Lt. Agema emphasized the importance of safe driving, stating, “When you're behind the wheel, make good decisions.”

This incident remains under investigation.
